Cllr Rani Mahal, Deputy PCC for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, has announced that she will step down from the role later this month.
Speaking at the Police and Crime Panel on 2 Dec, she confirmed that this would be her last meeting as Deputy as she needed to invest more time in her primary role as a District Councillor in Harborough.
Thanking the Commissioner Rupert Matthews for the opportunity to serve as his Deputy, she said: “I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the amazing officers, staff and police dogs of Leicestershire Police, and our parish councillors and the many partners and stakeholders instrumental to the health and wellbeing of our communities, for their tenacity and bravery.
“I would also like to thank the PCC and his wider office for supporting my own professional growth over the past two years and serving our area with such compassion and enthusiasm. Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are safer and more resilient for their efforts.”
Thanking her for her contribution to his Office, Rupert Matthews said that Rani had done a huge amount of work during her time as Deputy and had been an invaluable help to him.
The Commissioner has been clear that he believes the role of Deputy is necessary to provide much needed capacity in key areas of work, adding that he will now consider his options for the future.
