This morning I spent two hours out in Great Dalby along with the Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, Alicia Kearns, local councillor Robert Child and a team of fellow Conservatives. The weather was chilly and damp, but at least it was not raining.
We knocked on pretty much every door in the village and had some very interesting conversations. I'm glad to say that the majoirty of people reported that they had not experienced any crime problems in the village personally, but that does not mean that Great Dalby is crime-free. Several people reported the theft of lead from the church roof and the problems that this has caused to the community. Others mentioned thefts from farms - and in particular the theft of farm vehicles and quad bikes - as well as damage caused to land and gardens by intruders.
I will, of course, be following these up and will be seeing what can be done. Watch this website for updates over the coming weeks.
