Rupert Matthews, who represents the East Midlands region in the European Parliament, visited the Grainstore Brewery in Rutland recently to meet with owner and director, Peter Atkinson.
Rupert is currently running a campaign to ensure the protected status of local food and drink continues after the UK leaves the EU next year. He was keen to pay a visit to the Grainstore Brewery after learning that one of their beers, Rutland Bitter, is one of only three UK beers to have achieved Protected Geographical Indication status.
Rupert commented:
“I enjoyed visiting the Grainstore Brewery which is a real asset to the town of Oakham and to Rutland as a whole. I was very interested to hear from Peter about Rutland Bitter and how it achieved it’s protected statues from the EU.
“I was also encouraged to hear how the Brewery is going from strength to strength and to hear the exciting plans for the future. I’d like to thank Peter for meeting me and taking me of a tour of the Brewery.”
