East Midlands MEP visited Bakewell today (20th December) to tour the Thornbridge Brewery and the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop. The visits were part of Rupert’s campaign to promote and protect local food and drink products in the East Midlands.
At the Thornbridge Brewery, Rupert learnt about the history of the brewery from Marketing and Export Manager, Alex Buchanan. He heard how the brewery had gone from strength-to-strength since it was founded in 2005. He was also interested to hear that nearly 20% of the beer they produced is exported abroad.
He then visited the famous Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop where he was shown round by Pauline who had worked there since 1999. He learnt about the history of the Bakewell Pudding and had a chance to try one for himself.
Following his trip, Rupert commented:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Bakewell where I had the pleasure of trying the local beer and a Bakewell Pudding. I’d like to thank Alex and Pauline for showing me around and telling me all about the businesses.
“As an MEP for the East Midlands, I am campaigning for future free trade deals to be tailored for the export of our wonderful local food and drink to help our East Midlands businesses.”
