On Wednesday Rupert Matthews MEP attended a meeting at the European Parliament that called for the crimes against humanity carried out by the former Communist regimes to be recognised as clearly as those perpertrated by the Nazis.
Speaking after the event "Why was there no Communist Nuremberg Trials", Rupert said:
"The appalling crimes of Communist and Left Wing governments in the 20th Century have been brushed under the carpet, but were truly terrible. The Holodomor Genocide of 1932-33 carried out by the Soviet Regime cost the lives of between 7 million and 10 million Ukrainians. The Khmer Rouge Killing Fields took over a million Cambodian lives in 1970-75. Mao Tse-Tung butchered an estimated 20 million Chinese after he seized power in 1949. And that is before you even look at Katyn in 1940, Budapest in 1956 or what is going on in North Korea today. The fact that the Communists and other Left Wing regimes have been highly skilled at covering up their crimes makes them no less terrible."
