On Friday 6 September I visited the YouthLink project, funded by the Round 3 Commissioner’s Safety Fund awarded to Women 4 Change. This amazing project supports young men aged 14-25 in the St Matthews estate through weekly football sessions. More than just a game, these sessions teach essential life skills like teamwork, discipline, and staying active, helping participants avoid crime and develop a sense of belonging.
YouthLink also provides crucial mental health support by offering a free, structured activity where young men can socialize with others they wouldn’t normally meet. The project’s success is enhanced by coaches from professional backgrounds in the NHS, IT, housing, and business, serving as role models who inspire ambition in a community often affected by poverty.
With 97 participants now attending, thanks to 2024-2025 funding, YouthLink is a vital pathway helping young men aspire to brighter, crime-free futures. The coaches are from Leicester Atletico FC.
